Broyhill Gives Aaron a Bedroom Makeover
A bit of the Windy City has arrived in Topeka, courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Broyhill Furniture along with Marling's Home Furnishings; Best Buy and some awesome volunteers in Topeka.
Diagnosed at 6 months of age with hydrocephalus, a life-threatening condition of excess fluid in the brain, Aaron, 14, got his wish Friday for a Chicago-themed bedroom.
"This room is something he can call his own and get away and be in his own space," said Kim, Aaron's mother. "It's pretty overwhelming for him since he can be shy and introverted. But he was grinning ear-to-ear when he saw the room."
Aaron, a Shawnee Heights Middle School eighth-grader, said he got the idea for the bedroom that boasts a wall mural of the Chicago skyline at night, after a band trip to the city in March. He said his school's band performed in Mayor Richard Daley's last St. Patrick's Day parade.
The room also has meaning for Kim, since she is a native of the Windy City, having grown up next to Midway Airport. "It's very special," she said. "It brings back memories of growing up and being downtown."
Kim said she and her husband, Dennis, are grateful to all the businesses and people who donated materials and labor to make Aaron's dream room a reality. She said Aaron's medical expenses have made it difficult for them to not only go on vacations, but buy new furniture for him.

Applebee's Grants Wishes In Our Neighborhood
|
|
JS Ventures, the parent company of 16 Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations in Kansas, has recenlty been remodling some of their locations.
Applebee’s is changing out the décor to provide a more modern and comfortable environment for its guests. Three Wichita stores, along with locations in Salina, Hutchinson and most recently Hays, auctioned off a variety of memorabilia items currently used as decoration. Click here for more information on the Applebee's Garden City Auction scheduled to begin Thursday, July 22.
"So far these auctions have raised enough money to grant a wish in each city," said Jim Stevens, owner of JS Ventures.“We are happy to support the mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kansas and are glad so many people turned out to help us.”
Below is a photo from Jacob's wish to go on a shopping spree made possible by JS Ventures and Applebee's.
