Wish kids love to travel: It is the Make-A-Wish Foundation®’s conviction that a child’s wish should only be limited by his or her imagination. Last year, more than 62 percent of our wishes granted nationwide involved travel. Here are a few of the thousands of travel wishes granted across the nation fulfilled through the generosity of our airline partners and its members:

  • Wish Kid Eric, of Montana, wished to visit and snorkel in the Galapagos islands
  • Wish Kid Willie, of Virginia, wished to take a nap on a hammock between two palm trees in Hawaii
  • Wish Kid Melvin, of Connecticut, wished to go to March Madness in St. Petersburg, FL.
  • Wish Kid Kaeli wished to meet Mary Poppins at Disney World.

Who is helping our wish kids: Our airline partners, and its members, enable the Foundation to create moments of hope, strength, and joy for children with life-threatening illnesses -- through generously donated frequent flier miles.

  • Average number of miles needed for one travel ticket: 40,000

No gift is too small. Your donation makes a difference:

In fiscal year 2005, more than 7,500 children wished to travel. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® is committed to including each member of the child's immediate family in the wish experience.

Estimating a family of four, the Make-A-Wish Foundation would need more than one billion frequent flier miles this year to fulfill every wish child's travel request.

For immediate opportunities to donate frequent flier miles, please visit the Make-A-Wish Foundation Web site at www.wish.org and click on "Giving" or call (800) 566-WISH.

AngelWorks

Debilitated by grief after a series of family deaths, author and former journalist Polly Basore thought she'd lost nearly everything that mattered, including her parents and career. But a windfall from unexpected * and undesired * inheritances provided a chance to start over, placing her on the path to a life of meaning built on easing others' pain. In What Heaven Left Behind, Basore shares her journey through the common experience of grief and the rare experience of creating AngelWorks, a philanthropy that since its creation two years ago has provided more than a third of a million dollars to Wichita-based nonprofits including Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kansas. Purchase this book and $5 of the purchase price goes directly to grant wishes to Kansas children. www.whatheavenleftbehind.com
