| 25 Years of Making Wishes Come True in Kansas |
That’s right, 25 years of making magic for kids in Kansas and we are planning a year long celebration. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Kansas is gearing up for a celebration honoring 25 years of making wishes come true for children living with a life-threatening illness. On January 22, 2010 – Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson signed a state proclamation recognizing this milestone. The first wish was granted in 1985 to 10-year-old Rhonda of Hiawatha, Kan. She wanted to ride her horse in the annual winter parade in Scottsdale, Ariz., where she had relatives. Since that first wish, over 1,000 wishes have been granted throughout the entire state. Currently the foundation grants wishes in 99 of the 105 Kansas counties. Click here to read about our 1,000 wish celebration. To celebrate a celebration is set to take place on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Sedgwick County Park in Wichita, Kansas. If you are a former wish recipient or family member, a retired volunteer, past board member or wishgranter, we would encourage you to contact us with your current mailing address so we can send you an invitation to the festivities. Please be assured the “old” rules apply, we do not sell, rent or share our mailing list. It is a privilege to have these names and addresses and we don’t abuse that privilege. What a journey the past 25 years have been for this chapter, from a small group of dedicated volunteers who met in someone’s kitchen, to a chapter that has granted a thousand wishes! As we acknowledge our 25th year of granting wishes, we would like to thank all the donors, volunteers and former Board members, it is only because of you that this journey has been possible. Be sure to visit our home page and sign-up for our e-newletter to receive more information about this upcoming celebration.
