Dennis LaMunyon has been granting wishes with Make-A-Wish for almost three years!  He’s a newlywed, and his wife Shannon will become a wishgranter in April 2010.  Dennis has three sons, Lee, Kip and Doug who are all married, and between them Dennis has nine grandchildren ages 18 to 5.  His son Doug was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 17 and was granted a wish from another wishgranting organization.  Fortunately, Doug is in complete remission now!

Dennis had wanted to become involved with Make-A-Wish for some time, but his job for 40 years involved a lot of traveling.  In fact, Dennis could not make his first wishgranter training session because he was called out of town due to Hurricane Rita.  Now that Dennis has retired, he says that “being a volunteer for Make-A-Wish is a great honor…helping children with their wishes and to take the children’s and families’ mind off the illness for even a little while is a privilege.”

Since Dennis became a wishgranter he has granted fifteen wishes in Central, South Central, and Southeast Kansas.  He is currently working on seven wishes right now!!!  Dennis’s favorite part of being a wishgranter is “the smiles the wish brings to the wish child.”  He is sure to bring many more smiles to the children of Make-A-Wish!  Thanks for your commitment to making wishes come true throughout the state!
